There are other interesting places to visit around Lake Thun. We are happy to recommend our family-friendly partners: the Niederhorn with its unique view of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau triumvirate, the Niesen and Niesendörfli, the Stockhorn with its spectacular viewing platform, the Schilthorn with the Bond World, a boat trip on Lakes Thun or Brienz, a trip on the nostalgic train to the Schynige Platte or visit our partner in the Haslital, the cable car company Meiringen!
Across green Alpine meadows, through romantic heath and bright pine forests – hiking on the Niederhorn provides countless moments of happiness and singular experiences of nature.
The Niesen is a slate mountain. Its history began about 70 million years ago when slate layers were deposited on the bottom of the primeval Mediterranean Sea. Due to the folding of the Alps, the Niesen moved from the south to its current location.
The panoramic viewing platform in the north face of the Stockhorn is a breathtaking experience. On the platform, enjoy a 240-degree view into the fascinating world of mountains and lakes combined with a certain thrill.
Surrounded by more than 200 alpine peaks and embedded in a pristine mountain environment, the Piz Gloria is located at 2,970 metres above sea level. The instantly recognisable summit building takes pride of place on the Schilthorn summit. Let your gaze wander over spellbinding wraparound views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, flanked by an array of peaks in the Bernese and Valais Alps. To one side, the shimmering blue waters of Lake Thun, the pretty Swiss central plateau and the mountains of the Jura chain stretch out towards the horizon. Excellent visibility provided, you can even see as far as the Black Forest in Germany or the Mont Blanc massif in France.
The region around Lakes Thun and Brienz has many treasures to be discovered at any time of the year. Find your favourite route or place among the following excursion ideas.
When hiking on the Schynige Platte you don't get very far. Every few steps you stop to admire the stars, umbels and bells that bloom on the meadows. Or you can stop to admire the panorama. Everyone starts to slow down the pace. If they have not already done so: in the nostalgic trip on the Schynige Platte Railway or later in the restaurant with its breathtaking view.
The cable car company Meiringen-Hasliberg operates a summer and winter sports resort in the Bernese Oberland, ranging from 600 up to 2500 m asl. Every year, we transport over half a million people to the sun in the mountains.
