The St Beatus Caves are one of the 10 largest caves in Switzerland and, along with the Hölloch in the Muota Valley, one of the few open to the public. To date, 14 kilometres of the extensive cave system have been explored, one kilometre of which is secured for visitors. The tour covers an 87-metre drop and a total of 297 steps along grottos, chambers and gorges, as well as streams, waterfalls and imposing stalactites and stalagmites.
The magical aura of this unique natural world deep inside the mountain is highlighted by a sophisticated lighting. The energy in the St Beatus Caves is also remarkable: Studies have found up to 16,000 Bovis units, a scientifically proven unit of measurement of life energy.
The walk along the well-lit path takes about 60 minutes.
Neither the ascent to the caves nor the tour are accessible for prams and wheelchairs.

Groups and families usually visit the caves during the day. If you would like to experience the caves in absolute tranquillity, you can do so every Saturday evening from 17 h at the special rate of CHF 16 (adults). The caves are open until 18.30 h, with last admission at 17.45.
In the event of prolonged or heavy rain, for example after a heavy thunderstorm, the current and water level in the cave can rise rapidly. To ensure the safety of our visitors, we constantly monitor the weather and use an early warning system located deep within the cave system.
During floods, the caves are safe and accessible up to the waterfall in Milton Grotto. The power of nature is revealed here – an unforgettable experience! The waterfall in the outdoor area develops enormous energy during flood: It is an impressive sight to see the masses of water thundering down into the valley.
Floods can recede quickly, and your safety is always guaranteed – so it is well worth a visit!
